Alfred was the second child of two children born to Vinie Louisa Cooper and Wiley Morrell. Alfred was born sometime in 1908 in Santa Rosa County, Florida.

When Alfred was one year old his mother died and he and his older brother, Wade, were placed under the guardianship of Wiley Morrell.

Alfred died on February 14, 1991. His final resting place is unknown at this time.

Alfred changed his name to Fred Garrett after he had lived with the Garrett family who took him into their home after Wiley Morrell died.
