Biography

1810 - William (Billy) Adams was born in Warren City, Georgia.

1838 - He married Elizabeth (Eliza) Peake on August 4, 1838 in Henry County, Alabama.

1840 - Based on the 1840 Covington County, Alabama Federal census it is recorded that Billy was between the age of 20 and 30 and that there was one (1) male child under the age of 5, one (1) female child under the age of 5 and one (1) young woman between the age of 15 and 20 living with him.

1847 - He married Elmira Y. Gallagher on July 13, 1847 in Elba, Coffee County, Alabama. Elmira was 16 years old and Billy was 38 years old. She was born in 1832 in Covington County, Alabama.

1850 - Based on the 1850 Covington County, Alabama Federal census he and Elmira had four children living with them. Effy Adams, Joel Jefferson Adams and Hozea Adams were from William's first wife, Elizabeth (Lila) Peake, and Bryant Adams was William's and Elmira's first child.

1860 - Based on the 1860 Covington County, Alabama Federal census William and Elmira had seven children living with them: Effy D., Joel J., William H., Bryant, Eliza, William and Alexander.

1864 - Billy enlisted in the Covington County, Alabama U.S. Army Reserves, Company "A", on August 27, 1864 and served under Captain George W. Kierce as a private. He was about 53 years old at the time.

1880 - Based on the 1880 Santa Rosa County, Florida Federal census Billy and Elmira had at least eight (8) children. The census recorded that William was 64 years old and Elmira was 45 years old. Their children are listed as: William K. Adams age 25, Alexander Adams age 22, Andrew J. Adams age 18, Jasper C. Adams age 15, David F. Adams age 12, Lilly A. Adams age 10, George W. Adams age 8 and Nancy A. Adams age 5. 

1895 - William (Billy) Adams died on January 7, 1895 in Holt, Okaloosa County, Florida. Both he and his second wife, Elmira Gallagher Adams' final resting place is in the old Canoe Cemetery in Okaloosa County, Florida
