Washington Arnold Cooper

By the end of 1779, British troops had seized all of Georgia except Wilkes County and it wasn't until 1782 that the British were finally driven out of Georgia. The Revolutionary War ended in 1783 and on January 2, 1788, Georgia became the fourth state in the Union to ratify the United States Constitution.

Our history or should I say the history of our clan that we know to be provable with documentation starts approximately ten years after Georgia became a state.  The birth of Washington Arnold Cooper, the oldest member of our family that we have documentation on, took place in Georgia sometime between 1798 and 1800. The census records vary on his year of birth and until we find more records that give his exact date, this is all we know.

There were several Cooper families living in Georgia during the later part of the 1700s and many more during the early 1800s. Locating Washington's family  is continuing to be a challenge however, with the help of some of our cousins I believe we are getting closer.

I have tried to organize the histories more logically and have established a different format which I believe will make more sense. As you click on the highlighted names of the family members it will take you further up the family tree along the various branches. You can view a larger picture of the family member on each page by clicking on their picture. If you click on the larger picture it will return you to the previous page.

THE GREATEST GIFTS
THAT WE CAN GIVE
OUR CHILDREN
AND THOSE THAT FOLLOW
ARE OUR MEMORIES.

Don't ever underestimate just how grateful your family will be that you have recorded your memories for them. Think about how much you would have cherished it, if your parents or grandparents had done it for you.
